"Excellent training that left me feeling confident that I would be able to safely deal with any incidents that might occur. I have had training before from Wakefield MDC Team Teach but I feel far better informed following the School Positive Handling Training."

Richard Senior, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Dewsbury

Working with children is undoubtedly one of the best professions in the world. However, at some point, members of  school staff may be involved in dealing with confrontation and conflict as well as physically handling, assisting or holding a child. This can cause significant anxiety and stress for all involved.

Did you know that in 2014, around 82% of NASUWT members were verbally abused by pupils, a further 23% were threatened with violence and 16% were attacked?

Meanwhile 38 per cent suffered similar problems with parents or carers compared with 24 per cent in 2013. Some 23 per cent had received threats of physical assault from a pupil, up ten percentage points, and 16 per cent had actually been attacked. This was a rise of seven percentage points on last year.

In 2014, YouGov survey for TES of almost 800 teachers has revealed that teachers believe the behaviour of parents towards teachers has got worse over the past five years. Seventy-three per cent of those taking part in the survey thought parent behaviour had deteriorated.Primary teachers are particularly at risk as parents regularly attend the school to pick up their children. However, online abuse and bullying is also increasing. See full results here.
