"This training has provided greater confidence (personally) in de-escalation and positive handling and a greater consistency in practice across the school. One of the best INSET days I’ve had in my 10 years as a teacher. Thank you."

Positive Handling Training

Working with children and young people provides joy and happiness for most people who choose this exciting vocation. Nonetheless, people do not enter this career pathway to be abused. At some point in their worklife, educational staff may be involved in dealing with a physically aggressive or violent pupil or parent.  The leadership of the school has a duty under Section 2 of the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) so far as is reasonably practicable to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all their employees.

By choosing training from React UK/ School Positive Handling, you will be supporting your staff team as well as meeting the requirements of the Law.

We are passionate in our approach to support schools to nurture a clear Restraint Reduction Strategy.

Our comprehensive training focuses on developing a clear understanding of the functions of behaviour, Positive Behaviour Support and understanding the biology behind the behaviour so that the need to use restrictive force is greatly reduced.

Have your staff received de-escalation training based on the latest scientific research?

Do you and your staff fully understand your legal rights and responsibilities when faced with an aggressive or violent pupil?

Have your staff received training to enable them to reduce risks to themselves, the pupil and the school?

How can I reduce the need to use using reasonable force?

When is it appropriate and acceptable to use force?

What if a parent says we can't touch their child?

How can reasonable force be used safely for all involved?

What are the risks to the person being restrained and to myself?

Will I be subject to an investigation if I have to restrain a pupil?

What if a child makes an allegation that I have hurt them?

How do I rebuild the relationship following the use of any force?
What are the essential policies and procedures needed in your school?

School Positive Handling will help you answer all these questions and many more.

'Good restrictive intervention trainers have the potential to change practice, win hearts and minds and have an important role in supporting a system wide approach to the reduction of the use of unnecessary restrictive practices. They have a range of skills and are confident in their knowledge of all the training content, how it fits within the human rights framework, and best practice for the sector and population they are training in. They are able to assess competency, encourage potential, and appropriately challenge unhelpful attitudes.'
